Sexual Health Book List Part II

I recently saw a quote that said “Why do we call it smut and not cliterature?” And I couldn’t agree more and will be using that term to reference all future romance books.

A few weeks ago, I shared some of my top non-fiction books relating to sexual health, and before I share some of my favorite fiction reads, I thought I should first explain why romance novels can be beneficial for sexual health.

Get in the Mood

They help get you in the right mindset. It's unrealistic for someone to go from work, grocery shopping, putting a kid to sleep or any other daily task to being in the mood to get it on. Spicy stories can help get your brain in a sexy state of mind.

Spark Desire

Getting turned on by listening to or reading sexy stories will help you feel more desire for sex. Think about if you have ever had a craving for a certain food, maybe you read about it in a magazine or saw a commercial, it may have triggered a need to have that thing, the same can happen with these books.

A Pro Knows

The people who create these stories are professionals. Coming up with a fantasy can be a challenge, but these writers are masters at coming up with sensual scenarios so you don't have to! Just like you could probably come up with your own recipes, chances are you find one online and follow what someone else wrote out for you. So think of these stories as randy recipes for you to follow.

Get Inspired

Finally, these stories may also inspire you to try something new. As we know, sex is so much more than penetration and often these tales contain amorous acts that are not very common. So you might discover something new, whether it's an act or position, that could become a household fave.

Now that you know why I recommend these books, I want to share a few that I enjoyed and other people I’ve worked with have as well.*

First up is  Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. This is a book for you if you read Harry Potter and wished the dragon part of the triwizard tournament was an entire book or you loved Game of Thrones for Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons. Either way, this is an action packed spicy fantasy with dragons.

Next, we have The Serpent and Wings of the Night by Carissa Broadbent. One human girl competes against a hoard of vampire warriors to hopefully win power and glory. This is perfect if you read hunger games and thought this is good, but I wish it was vampires and that there was heaps of sexual tension.

Finally, we have A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. Now, this is the second book in the series but I’m mentioning this book because it is so much better than the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses. Yes, you have to get through the first book before you can read the second one. Many people struggle with the first book, and while I thought it was an ok read, it did remind of a day old cookie you got at the grocery store because it was half off and you thought I deserve a little treat but now you’re home and it’s kinda stale and you are wondering why am I still eating this when it’s not that good, but it’s still a cookie, so it’s not awful. That is what A Court of Thorns and Roses feels like. But stick with it because there is some chocolate molten lava cake from the upscale French bakery waiting for you in A Court of Mist and Fury. I promise.

To be clear, one book or audio story may not be the only thing needed to take your sex life to the next level. But it can be a fun place to start. If you are struggling or looking for other solutions, reach out or schedule a consultation and we can see what other tools you might benefit from!

*Book preferences are as unique as vulvas. What I enjoy reading may not be your cup of tea and that is totally OK. There are many books out there, so find what you enjoy.

**While Amazon is convenient, please consider your local bookstores or the library for your reading needs.
